Day 4, Monday August 4, 2008 --> French Quarter and Graveyard Tours

Ok. So now were fully settled into New Orleans. This place is awesome. Love it. Were not coming home, our hotel rocks, it is right in the middle of everything fun here. We took almost 200 pictures today, and thats only for the first part of the day... Were not putting them all on here, but you can see them all over at Picasa, go check them out!

We woke up early this morning, grabbed a bite to eat then embarked on a 2 hour self-guided tour of the French Quarter thanks to Frommer's New Orleans 2008 book. Pretty amazing. There were 37 stops along the approx. 2 hour walking tour with each site given a brief description and history.

We even managed to find St Louis Street. Cool!

There were lots of cool things to see, like the gas lights that burned every where. We also had to watch our step...

We also saw two things that I assumed we would see in New Orleans, just not in the daytime...
a pigeon eating neon red vomit and a dead body in the trash....

ok, then we had some lunch and went on another 2 hour walking tour. Visit TourNewOrleans.com for more info on the tour. This time we went on a Cemetary Tour. Our tour guide, 'Bob' was awesome and had lots of interesting and historical facts to share.
He told us all about the history of the city of New Orleans. He was funny and interesting and did a great job. He informed us about the history of 'Saint Expidus' which was both funny and interesting. Then he led us into the St Louis Graveyard #1 and we got to see some amazing stuff.
Before we went in, our tour guide pointed out Hurricane Katrina to us. The water came to this point and stayed there for several weeks (the Graveyard is several feet above sea level).

now onto the dead people (or whats left of them anyway!) some tombs were in better shape than others.

here are a few of my fav pics from the graveyard (but seriously, there are TONS of awesome pics from here, go check them out! just click on one of the pics to see more!)

thanks for lookin!!! now were heading out for dinner at Louisiana Pizza Kitchen and then heading down to Bourbon Street again! more pics tomorrow!!

  1. I could have gone all day without seeing the red neon vomit.

I'm in love with a couple of the cemetary pics! I want some really creepy ones so you have to swing by there when it's getting dark and shoot a few more for me. please!

  2. all of the cemetaries close way before dark, they chain the gates closed and to be honest, they arent in the best neighborhoods. i wont be climbing any 8 foot walls to get into the graveyards at night, sorry D.

  3. What have you done with Jason? What do you mean you won't climb any 8 foot walls in bad 'hoods to get into graveyards? If I were there you know you would ;)
