Woke up Wednesday knowing that it would be our last day in the Big Easy. It was sad to have to go, but damn, im glad to be out of that oppressive heat/ humidity. Ive heard its been HOT back home, so i guess were not missing much.
(the last view from our hotel window, the pink buildings in the 3rd pic are Bourbon Street!)
We strolled down toward the river and had breakfast at the famous Cafe du Monde. Then we did a little shopping in the French Market. Then it was time to say goodbye to New Orleans so we got in the truck and started driving. I chose to take a different route out of New Orleans and we tripped across The Lake Pontchartrain Causeway, a 24 mile bridge spanning the HUGE Lake Pontchartrain. Pretty cool, the lake is so big that the sky and the water seemed to just flow into each other on the horizon.
After many hours of driving, including a 40 minute detour off the highway and onto the back roads of Mississippi due to a huge wreck, we made it to Jackson.
Apparently our hotel is not a popular one. There was not ONE SINGLE CAR in the parking lot when we got here. Not even employee cars... We thought the place might be closed or something. But no, theyre open, just not popular.
After coming back from a wonderful wild goose chase to find Asian food for dinner (note-- when in unfamiliar cities, dont just take GoogleMaps word on where something is cause if it cant figure out exactly where you want to go, it wont tell you. In fact, if Google gets confused, it will actually make up some pretend location and tell you how to get there. we spent at least an hour trying to find something that just wasnt there, but dammit, we had GREAT directions to get there!), there were some more cars in the parking log, fortunatley they were being driven by creepy people... ugh.

There is no way I would have stayed at that hotel having the only vehicle in the parking lot. That's an slasher film waiting to happen.
ReplyDeleteDave went to a place in Mississpi once that looked like a Eat Rite diner, but apparently served finest steak in town oh and you had to bring your own drinks. It's like the twilight zone down there.
